Our comprehensive advising includes:
Student Assessment: We collect and review transcripts, any standardized test scores, writing samples and the results of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator as well as honors, awards and athletic marks to begin the high school planning program. We discuss long-term goals for college and career.
We utilize the assessment as a foundation for student self-understanding from which to make high school curriculum choices, and to choose college and career paths that reflect the student’s natural talents, interests, and passions.
High School Educational Plan: Collaborating with students, parents, and counselors, we formulate individualized, long-term academic and personal development strategies that equip students with the necessary critical thinking, writing, self-initiative, group collaboration, and technological literacy skills and competencies necessary for success in college and beyond.
Curriculum Selection and Standardized Test Preparation Strategy: Working from each student’s strengths and natural orientation for learning, we provide guidance for high school curriculum selection and standardized test preparation strategies.
Extracurricular Activities: We facilitate brainstorming sessions for planning out-of-school learning and service opportunities and activities.
Financial Aid Topics: We provide an introduction to college financial aid including an overview of the FAFSA and CSS Profile process. We review ways to evaluate college affordability and discuss available tools to help families assess and plan for college costs.
NCAA Guidelines and Collegiate Athletics Recruiting Overview: For student-athletes and their parents, an initial discussion about the athletic recruiting process. We cover NCAA rules, regulations and important legislation and review athletic and academic merit scholarship awards.
We advise families on all aspects of educational planning to help students identify strengths and weaknesses, educational objectives and choices. We help them set essential short and long-term goals.
